Freedom As A Threat xxx -
By Deke Bregalad
Even in the face of change and hope and revolution there are still
barriers that we hold up even against ourselves, even within those
that claim to be challenging 'the system' we build a system within
ourselves. blocking our hearts from those that we cannot hope to
reach, we fall back instead upon the breaking glass, the simple
end to a fruitless battle ... the fences to climb if we are ever
to connect with each other are mountains; too much effort to be
wasted upon so we fall back down and look up, looking up at the
sun and being satisfied with that view alone. hoping to reach
a sort of inner grounds if only through a simple means, still falling
back upon the deadly machine.
there is no universal sun, as there are no universal stars. they
are different through each one of our eyes. just as the world -
we are all free to interpertate it as we will. there is no such
thing as a common 'right' or 'wrong' which binds us all, and to
feel that this is true is to have a view of the world just as all
those crusaders who needed to live in a world populated with only
themselves. we view the world through our own eyes and can only
see people destroying themselves, yet that idea is universal. we
all have shook our heads in shame at one person's decisions. yet
what is right for them is not right for us, and the same applies
to us. we are not all meant to be the same - we are not simply
mirrors that need the reflections changed.
if you look at the world, disgusted - then a disgusting world you
will see. if you see destruction with the hope of rebuilding -
then that's a view unrestricted.
if you believe that how you live is right, then have faith in your
friends that they will have the strength to look within themselves
and come home to their own conclusions.
how many times are we bogged down with despair for not being able
to live as others have? How many times do we eye those we envy
and only wish that we could have such skills? to waste away on
such ideas is to loose touch with oneself. to find peace within
yourself, you must cling to the very things that make up your whole.
you must accept your own strengths and come to terms with your
weaknesses, for there is no such thing as perfection until we can
understand the inner machine that drives us.
we are not all artists, for if the world was made solely of painters,
there would no longer be any paint.
and realizing that we are all different, we must realize that we
are not all the same - that there is no one universal doctrine or
idea that binds us unless it is this - we are all free people to
live the life that we choose. if this is granted, then all else will follow.
how long have we prescribed fortune to our friends in hopes that
they will find our own happiness only to be rejected in the end?
we are constantly bombarded with fate - "are you unhappy? it's
because you are not a Christian! are you fed up with the cities?
it's because you do not live in the suburbs! do you wish you could
just fade away? it's because you don't own a new SUV!"
constantly are suggestions being presented to us about the hopes
of finding our real destinies - rather than seeking them out for
ourselves, we turn to other, easier roads. hoping to find satisfaction
within a material culture that leaves our own thoughts in dire confusion.
there is no such thing as a system until we believe that it should
rule over our lives. once we put faith in ourselves, and once we
realize the only authority has always been within us, and then possibilities
will come to us as it never has. once we realize that a system
cannot rule over us, and then it will lose that power. there is no
structure that could stand to resist the unharneshed soul, for our
hearts could not accept such a thing.
how often have people stood by waiting until a 'demonstration' or
a 'protest' happened in order to fling their frustrations out at
'the system' that kept them contained? they are still putting faith
into the fact that 'the system' has authority over their lives.
if you do not accept a cage to live in, then a cage will not exist.
a free spirit cannot, and will never, be contained.
freedom is truly a threat. if we were encouraged to become all
that which we COULD become, then what a dangerous place for those
who want control - if we were appriciated as being different people
with different dreams and goals, then what a powerless place it
would be for those who want power. as long as we BELIEVE that those
who have power can dominate our lives, then they will. but if we
reject their authority over a life that they have never known, then their
power will diminish.
freedom cannot be restricted. it happens. and we merely move along
to it's beat, or it evades us entirely.
